biography

Luciano Belviso is a founder, aerospace engineer, and systems architect whose career spans certified aircraft, defence systems, and autonomous maritime platforms.
At 25 he founded Blackshape Aircraft in Puglia, where he designed a fully certified aeroplane from first principles. The aircraft went from blank sheet to maiden flight in eight months and achieved full EASA certification eighteen months later — an achievement that set the tone for everything that followed.
Over fifteen years, Blackshape grew into an established manufacturer whose platforms were adopted by armed forces, training organizations, and customers across several countries. That experience taught him a discipline he applies everywhere: when something real carries human life, rigour is not optional. Start from first principles. Understand the system. Build with precision.
Today, Luciano is the founder of Mirai Robotics, developing autonomous maritime systems and information intelligence for the blue economy. Mirai is a dual-use company building European sovereign capability in information intelligence and autonomy — extending the same engineering method from the sky to the sea. Education Luciano studied aerospace engineering at Politecnico di Torino, mechanical engineering at EPFL Lausanne, and space law at Université Paris-XI. He was selected by Porsche Italia as a featured builder for their Dreamers On programme and has spoken at TEDx events on engineering, aviation, and the discipline behind building from scratch. Outside engineering, Luciano remains close to disciplines that demand the same form of attention: the piano, the violin, and flying aircraft. Positioning Rationale The recommended positioning angle is Autonomous Systems & European Defence Sovereignty. Ideal Audiences
  • Defence and aerospace industry conferences
  • Maritime security and naval innovation forums
  • Technology leadership summits (AI, robotics, autonomy)
  • Corporate innovation and R&D leadership events
  • Government and institutional strategy meetings
  • Venture capital and deep-tech investor conferences
  • Engineering and executive education programs
  • Innovation conferences
  • Startup ecosystems
  • University cirtuits
Luciano’s unique differentiators:
European defence pending is accelerating sharply, with the EU mobilising €800B+ in defence investment. Demand for speakers who combine real engineering credibility with strategic vision on sovereignty is high and supply is low. Most defence speakers are policy analysts or retired military — very few are active founders building the actual systems.
Fifteen years of certified aircraft engineering with military adoption. Active founder of an autonomous maritime company. Cross-domain credibility spanning aerospace, maritime, defence, and AI. First-principles engineering philosophy that resonates with both technical and executive audiences. TEDx talks demonstrating stage presence and storytelling ability. A builder’s perspective on how autonomous systems are actually designed, certified, and deployed in regulated, high-stakes environments — and how these systems are reshaping European strategic capabilities.
Secondary angle:
First Principles Engineering for Deep Tech — applicable to innovation conferences, startup ecosystems, and university circuits.

Topics

  • Autonomous Systems & European Sovereignty
  • How Europe can build sovereign capability in autonomous platforms — from defence to ocean economy — and why the engineering method matters more than the technology.
  • Building from a Blank Sheet What it takes to design, certify, and manufacture a real aircraft from first principles.
  • Lessons for any founder or engineer building safety-critical systems under uncertainty.
  • First Principles Engineering for Deep Tech Why rigorous engineering discipline — not hype, not speed — is what separates systems that work from prototypes that don’t.
  • From Sky to Sea: Dual-Use Technology The convergence of aerospace, maritime, and defence.
  • How one engineering method applies across domains when the stakes are real.
  • The Discipline Behind Precision What flying aircraft, playing the violin, and building certified machines have in common. A personal perspective on mastery and attention.
