Joseph Stiglitz is a leading economist, public policy analyst and a professor at Columbia University. In 2001 he won the Nobel Prize for Economics. He was Chief Economist to the World Bank and is a former member and chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers of former US President Bill Clinton.

His work focuses on income distribution from a Georgist perspective and he is known for his critical view of the management of globalization and of international institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
In 2009 Thinkers 50, the global ranking of management gurus, placed him among the list of most influential thinkers. In 2011 Stiglitz was named by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
Professor Stiglitz has received more than 40 honorary degrees and has been decorated by several governments.
