Mari Kiviniemi held significant positions in both national and international arenas, contributing to various aspects of public policy and economic development. Her experience as Prime Minister of Finland, as well as her roles in the OECD and other governmental positions, highlight her expertise in areas such as inclusive growth, jobs, equality, and trust-building.
She was born in 1968, studied economics at the University of Helsinki and holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences.
She served as the second female Prime Minister of Finland from 2009 to 2010.
Elected for the first time at the age of 26, she was a Member of Parliament from 1995 to 2014.
In 2014, Mrs. Kivinevi was nominated OECD Deputy Secretary General. Her role consisted of sharing her experience to help increase the impact and relevance of OECD work and to contribute to public policy challenges of promoting inclusive growth, jobs, equality and trust.
She was responsible for the strategic oversight of the OECD’s work and held this position until 2018.
In 2019 she became Managing Director of the Finnish Federation of Commerce. She has recently resigned from her position.
