Giovanna Botteri is one of Italy’s most respected and popular journalist on international politics.
Over the decades, she has reported firsthand on the world’s most significant events: the collapse of the Soviet Union; the wars in the former Yugoslavia, Algeria, South Africa, Rwanda, Albania, and Kosovo; the 2001 G8 Summit in Genoa; Afghanistan and Iraq, where in 2003 she exclusively filmed the beginning of the bombings on Baghdad. She has also covered the conflicts in Lebanon and Syria, and in Iran she documented the Natanz nuclear facility.
From 2007 she was based in the United States, covering Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, the Great Recession and the Wall Street crisis, the war against ISIS, terrorist attacks, and the election victory of Donald Trump. In 2019 she moved to China, becoming one of the few Western journalists to witness the Covid-19 pandemic. From 2022 to 2024 she lived in Paris, where she closely covered the banlieue riots and the rise of far-right movements.
Giovanna Botteri holds a degree in Philosophy and a PhD from the Sorbonne. She began her career writing for philosophy journals and newspapers before joining RAI, where she became a reporter and anchorwoman for Tg3.
For her outstanding contribution to international journalism, she has been awarded the title of Knight of the Italian Republic and the French Legion of Honour.
Giovanna Botteri’s keynotes are the result of years spent on the front lines: investigations, interviews, conflicts, and international politics intertwined with the lives of ordinary people. Each presentation is a powerful story, conveying emotion, passion, and a profound sense of humanity.
