Pierluigi Collina was a football referee, considered the best of all time. Although he no longer referees matches, he is still present in football as President of the FIFA Referees Committee. He refereed 240 matches in the Italian Serie A and 109 international matches, including the finals of the most important competitions, such as the 1996 Olympics, the 1999 Champions League and the final of the Olympic Games, the 2002 World Cup and the 2004 UEFA Cup. He was voted “FIFA Best referee of the Year” six consecutive times, between 1998 and 2003, and best Italian referee seven times between 1997 and 2005. The President of the Republic Ciampi appointed him “Commendatore of the Italian Republic” in 2003 and since 2011 he has been part of the Hall of Fame of the FIGC, the Italian Football Federation. In 2020 France Football placed him in first place in the classic of referees in the history of football. In charge of the Serie A referees from 2007 to 2010 and of UEFA from 2010 to 2018, since 2017 he has been the President of the FIFA Referees Commission.
